The Optical Society of Greater St. Louis (OSGSL) is a section of the Optical Society of America. It is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting education and communication of optical sciences and technology. Bimonthly meetings feature optics and photonics programs describing engineering developments, technology overviews, experimental techniques, etc. Interest areas include lasers, fiber optics, imaging, optoelectronics, optical materials, telecommunications, vision, color, and sensing.
The officers can provide further information on the organization and its activities.

We welcome suggestions for seminars, requests for educational resources, opportunities for optics-related facility tours, and participation from students and K-12 educators.

Membership is open to those interested in optics and photonics including engineers, scientists, educators, and students. Activities include bimonthly seminars, networking opportunities, educational programs, and science fair prizes. One is not required to be a member of the parent OSA organization in order to join OSGSL. Annual dues for regular membership is $15, for student membership is $5, and for corporate membership is $50. OSA offers an Optics Discovery educational kit (targeted to grades six through nine) which features eleven detailed experiments to demonstrate the basic principles of optics. It publishes several scholarly journals and a monthly magazine Optics and Photonics News.
