The National Capital Section is a local chapter of the Optical Society of America (NCS/OSA) serving the Washington DC-Northern Virginia-Baltimore area. We hold monthly meetings 8 months of the year featuring a social hour and dinner at a local restaurant followed by a technical presentation on an optics topic of current interest given by a distinguished speaker from the optics industry.
The Optical Society of America, our parent organization, is an international professional society of optical scientists and engineers dedicated to the professional development of its members through a wide variety of services including sponsoring technical meetings, symposia and conferences, publishing peer reviewed technical journals and many other services for over 12,000 members whose interests range from lens design to astronomical telescopes, from photonics to adaptive optics, from cameras to orbital sensor satellites, from optical computers to deep space probes, from optical fibers to giant mirrors, from simple optical components to complex optical systems--and much more!
Our local section covers a similar range of interests and our over 60 members represent government agencies, private industry, academia and consultants from the optics arena.
